BOOK REVIEW: Lux Beginnings by Jennifer L. Armentrout

Lux Beginnings is the first two books in the Lux series. Onyx and Opal
  • Overall rating: ****
  • Reading rate: *****
  • Romance: ****
  • Recommended if you liked: Other JLA Works

I am a pretty big JLA fan so I cannot believe that it took my so long to get to her LUX series. I read the first two books in just about 2 days and was so bummed when I realized I had the 5th book and not the 3rd like I thought. An urgent Amazon order had to be placed!

I dont read a whole lot of sci-fi but it was really neat to read an Alien book in a style of writing I really enjoy.

What I liked:

  • I loved that the female MC is a bookworm and book blogger.
  • Fast paced and sucks you right in, you just have to keep reading to find out what happens next!
  • In typical JLA fashion you are on a total romance roller coaster screaming at the characters to give in already!! Sounds negative but it makes the book so much more exciting and I could not put the story down!

What I struggled with:

  • There is a bit of bullying in the beginning and for me that is super frustrating, but it more than makes up for it as the book goes on.
  • I feel like some of the major reveals were predictable but there were still some curve balls thrown at you so the story was still overall very enjoyable.

Beautiful Gargoyles who defend humanity from demons and a sassy female MC with a powerful and dangerous secret…. What could go wrong??

Storm and Fury Armentrout Book Review

While this is a spin off series to Armentrout’s The Dark Elements series, I didn’t feel like I was missing any world or character building by not reading them first.  All of Armentrout’s characters were bold and witty which made reading through their conversations all the more entertaining, and also lends to impulsive and dangerous decisions. I also enjoyed the way she addressed characters working through struggles with their beliefs, emotions, and perceived disabilities.

It actually took me a few tries to get sucked into this book, but once the action picked up I could not put it down!! I could not get enough of the pull between Trinity and Zanye (swoon). The author did a great job of giving you enough information to think you had it all figured out but then taking you for another loop. Needless to say I cannot wait for the second installment of The Harbinger series, and would have started binging it right away if available.

I would recommend Storm and Fury to anyone 17+ (things get a little steamy in parts) who enjoys reading fast paced paranormal mystery. Also some of the nods to Supernatural were extra little cookies in the story for me as a fan of that series as well.

Official Synopsis:

Eighteen-year-old Trinity Marrow may be going blind, but she can see and communicate with ghosts and spirits. Her unique gift is part of a secret so dangerous that she’s been in hiding for years in an isolated compound fiercely guarded by Wardens—gargoyle shape-shifters who protect humankind from demons. If the demons discover the truth about Trinity, they’ll devour her, flesh and bone, to enhance their own powers.

When Wardens from another clan arrive with disturbing reports that something out there is killing both demons and Wardens, Trinity’s safe world implodes. Not the least because one of the outsiders is the most annoying and fascinating person she’s ever met. Zayne has secrets of his own that will upend her world yet again—but working together becomes imperative once demons breach the compound and Trinity’s secret comes to light. To save her family and maybe the world, she’ll have to put her trust in Zayne. But all bets are off as a supernatural war is unleashed…

Thank you to NetGalley and Inkyard Press for the opportunity to read this ARC for my honest opinion.
