Book Review: Infernium by Keri Lake

Book 2 in the Nightshade Duology

Genre: Paranormal Romance

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5

🔥🔥🔥/5

This duology felt like it was way more than just 2 books. There was so much world building, parallels worlds, past lives, a smidge of time travel.

Infernium was a bit more grim than Nightshade. While there is a love story to the book the romance was more dark and painful than fun and spicy. Overall the story was well built and complex. While the outcomes of the story were predictable the story line didn’t pay out how I thought it would at all.

⁃ Lots of crazy twists and turns

⁃ New snarky side characters that I loved

⁃ Demon infested labyrinth

I found my self rushing through the book a little bit to get to the end and find out what happened, some parts of the book felt repetitive and I didn’t feel the continued flashbacks to young Jericho added to the story. If the book had some of the extra cut out I probably would give 5 stars.

Book Review: Haven by Mary Lindsey

Overall ****

Reading Rate: ****

Romance: ****

Recommend if you liked: Crave series, Shiver, Shadowhunters

This was a dark yet fun and fast paced YA paranormal story with a pretty decent amount of romance.

What I liked:

  • I enjoyed the characters and the darkness of the world. The kids deal with difficult and heartbreaking situations and the story even got a little creepy reading at times at night.
  • Unique magic system
  • It was really fun for me that the story is based in Texas since that is where I am from

What I struggled with:

  • Similar to issues in the Shadowhunters books there is a lot of people stuck in their old ways and a large lack of communication.

While the ending did wrap up nicely it left things open for more story, I was ready to learn more about the world and see what mayhem the characters encountered next.

Thank you to Mary Lindsey and Entangled Teen for a copy of Haven in exchanged for my honest opinion.

Synopsis: We all hold a beast inside. The only difference is what form it takes when freed.

Rain Ryland has never belonged anywhere, He’s used to people judging him for his rough background, his intimidating size, and now, his orphan status. He’s always been on the outside, looking in, and he’s fine with that. Until he moves to New Wurzburg and meets Friederike Burkhart.

Freddie isn’t like normal teen girls, though. And someone wants her dead for it. Freddie warns he’d better stay far away if he wants to stay alive, but Rain’s never been good at running from trouble. For the first time, Rain has something worth fighting for, worth living for. Worth dying for.

Book Review: Crave by Tracy Wolff

Crave (Crave #1) by Tracy Wolff

  • Release date: April 7, 2020
  • Publisher: Entangled: Teen
  • Recommended if you liked: Jennifer L. Armentrout works, Vampire Academy

This book was all over Instagram and I kept hearing great things so I had to hop on board. This book has been blurbed as a comparable to Twilight and while the cover does very closely resemble the series I didn’t find a lot of similarities outside of a few specific references.

What I liked:

  • INTALOVE!! Total sucker for it and there was some definite steam…. Jaxon (swoon)
  • Fun and fast paced, I don’t think there was a lull in action the whole book.
  • Left with a smidgen of a cliffhanger but not so much I was dying to know what happens next… I will 1005 be grabbing the next book to find out though.
  • I often struggle with a lack of information on a world, but the book is written so you are finding things out as the MC does so everything still made sense and flowed well…. I cant wait to learn more in future installments.
  • I also loved the bit of extra content after the end from Jaxon’s perspective.

What I struggled with:

  • A bit predicable
  • Dated writing, really targeted references and writing style for the current teen crowd. Made me feel too old to be reading the novel and I think will put off a lot of non YA aged YA fans

Overall it is not a work of literary art or anything of that caliber but if you are looking for a fun and fast paced Paranormal Romance read i highly recommend! The title and cover for book #2 Crush have already been released and I will 100% be reading as soon as it is released.

Synopsis:

My whole world changed when I stepped inside the academy. Nothing is right about this place or the other students in it. Here I am, a mere mortal among gods…or monsters. I still can’t decide which of these warring factions I belong to, if I belong at all. I only know the one thing that unites them is their hatred of me.

Then there’s Jaxon Vega. A vampire with deadly secrets who hasn’t felt anything for a hundred years. But there’s something about him that calls to me, something broken in him that somehow fits with what’s broken in me.

Which could spell death for us all.

Because Jaxon walled himself off for a reason. And now someone wants to wake a sleeping monster, and I’m wondering if I was brought here intentionally—as the bait.
