Book Review: Devil in Ruin by Trisha Wolfe

We all know I am huge fan of Trisha and even though mafia is not a go to trope for me I had to give it a read.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5

  • I devoured this book. It sucked me in from the first page and I read over 50% in one sitting and finished the rest the next day
  • Action packed all the way to the end
  • I really liked the take on women’s roles and strong women. Ellie actually ended up being my favorite character 😂

Book Review: Brainwashed by Nyla K

Overall: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5
Spice: 🔥🔥🔥🔥/5

I read the entire book (which is chunky) in about a day and half.

I absolutely loved the first two books in the AP series and could not wait to get my hands on Brainwashed

  • Even though all of the books in the series are based on the same location the stories all all very different
  • I knew not to go in thinking I could predict this story but I was completely surprised by the characters and how everything played out!
  • This is a slow burn but things certainly heat up
  • lots of True Crime vibes and references
  • MM Doctor Patient romance
  • The most twisted of Nyla’s characters that I have read so far
  • This one will not be for everyone so make sure you check her warnings, but if it sounds like your thing I highly recommend 🙌

Book Review: The Dark One by Nikki St. Crowe

The Dark One, Vicious Lost Boys Book 2
Overall: 4/5
Steam: 4/5 Check your triggers, while there is emotion involved in the acts its not a “love story”
Reading Rate: 5/5 These are short, action-packed installments that can be read in a day or two.
After reading The Never King I was hooked on this twisted Peter Pan inspired story. I love that all the characters are truly bad, and it makes it difficult to really root for one person or group. While I did predict the cliffhanger ending…. I truly have no idea how things are going to turn out.
– Things definitely got steamier in this second installment.
– I love that all the characters are dark and slightly unhinged
– The nods to Peter pan and really entertaining, it so fun to see the twists on classic characters. I cannot wait to meet Croc!

Synopsis:

I spent most of my life feeling dead inside — until I met Peter Pan and the Lost Boys.

It wasn’t until Pan and Neverland that I finally felt alive.

But things are not all full of magic and sunlight on the island. There’s something darker and more sinister haunting the forest.

And worse, the fae queen and Captain Hook are ready to fight for control of Neverland and they will stop at nothing to get what they want. Including using the one thing Pan never thought he wanted or needed — me. I’m a descendant of the Darling family and now I belong to him and the Lost Boys.

War is brewing — can the Never King get his shadow back and assume his rightful throne? And if he does, where will I fit?

Or will all of Neverland be in jeopardy right along with my dark, twisted heart?

Book Review: Liars by Dana Isaly

Liars, The Triad Book Series Book 2 by Dana Isaly

Overall: ****

Reading Rate: *****

Romance: ****

Genre: Adult Organized Crime RH Romance

Pages: 208

This book is the second in the fast-paced RH Triad series by Isaly. I loved book 1 and was so excited to get to read book 2! This is a true series so make sure you read book 1 first, as this book picks up right where the cliffhanger at the end up book one picked up.

What I liked:

  • Fast paced and no time wasted getting to the action, never a dull moment.
  • I loved how Isaly makes her female characters a little broken and unhinged where as most series only let their male characters show those flaws.

What I struggled it:

  • The story was a little all over the place in this book, but it kind of goes with the mentality of the characters.
  • There was supposed to be a big cliffhanger/twist at the end but I unfortunately saw it coming so it was a little anticlimactic for me.

Overall I cannot wait for the next book to come out and get to know more about the characters.

Synopsis:

My boys found me, but a rift has formed.

Weeks ago I was steadily gaining their trust, finding my place in their lives and their beds. Now, it seems I’m the wedge driving the three of them apart.

I’ve been beaten, starved, and kept in the dark. All to come back to three men who can’t agree whether I’m an ally or a mole. But we have bigger problems to solve.

There’s a new player in the game.

The latest contender for the Dulca throne just so happens to be my favorite cousin. He was my best friend, my partner in crime. If I can get my boys to trust me long enough to keep them from starting a war, my family’s secret weapon could end up being the key to bringing our organizations together.

But I have no clue what Motshan is hiding up his sleeve, and we might not be able to come back from the carnage it could cause.

Book Review: Into the Dark by Dana Isaly

Overall: *****/5

Romance/Steam: This one is really hard to rate, this book is very dark and while there are steamy scenes they are more about dealing with demons than sexy.

Recommend if you liked: Ecstasy by K.V. Rose, Haunting Adeline

I loved this book! It was so dark and you knew from the first page that is was going to tear you apart, this story falls in my “hurts so good” category.

What I liked:

  • I loved the broken characters, I don’t think I have ever seen someone like the FMC Lyra highlighted in a book before and I really enjoyed it.
  • This story reminded me of what a real world Joker and Harley Quinn would be like
  • Short and fast paced read, I finished it in one sitting (about 3.5 hours).
  • I completely loved that it was not a happy ending.

What I struggled with:

  • For sure check the trigger warnings if there are sensitive topics for you as this story contains a lot of content that could be upsetting. I do feel that all of the darkness was necessary to tell the story to its full potential.

Synopsis:

Him

I am the monster that lurks in your nightmares.

Evil incarnate. A sociopath. A murderer.

I kill women who are guilty of nothing other than being in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Women like Lyra.

Her yellow raincoat flapped in the cool breeze when she walked by, that blonde hair making her look like a drowned rat as she stopped to taste the rain.

She wasn’t like the others, but my demon wanted her.

We followed her. Watched her. Obsessed over her.

She is ours. Of that I’m certain.

We will pull her into the depths of our darkness and keep her imprisoned there.

Until we meet our end.

Lyra

I am ordinary in every way.

Average looks. Mundane job. Boring life.

But when he looks at me, I become something else entirely.

His gaze stalks and tracks me like a game of cat and mouse, his eyes licking fire over my skin every time they glance in my direction.

My thoughts are consumed by him every moment he’s out of sight.

He is my obsession. I can’t let him go.

And once he shows me his true form, I know I’ve captured him forever.

He is mine. Of that I’m certain.

I will follow him to the depths of darkness and happily submit to his madness.

Until we meet our end.

Book Review: Corrupt by Penelope Douglas

Corrupt (Devil’s Night #1) by Penelope Douglas

  • Romance: ****
  • Pages: 461

*Multiple potential triggers are present in this book

After I finished reading the first book in Douglas’ Bully series I was looking for something a little more adult so was recommended trying out her Devils Night Series…. So glad I did guys.

This book follows the stories of Michael and Erika as their worlds collide again after a fateful night in High School. But things are different now because Michael and his friends are out for revenge and Erika is enemy #1.

What I liked:

  • This is marketed as romantic suspense  or dark romance and my goodness I was on the edge of my seat for the entire book
  • It is dark and twisty and you really have no idea if the story is going end on a high note or crash and burn. I had to know what happened next but didn’t want it to end
  • It was quite “steamy” (that will be funnier after you read) and the romance and sex are on the darker side which I really enjoyed.

What I struggled with:

  • I personally do not have a lot of triggers but acknowledge that this book is not for everyone and could be very triggering. The books is 100% adult and has mature themes throughout even though it bounces back and forth from high school to college.
  • The thing that kept me from giving the books five stars was that as the reader seeing both sides of the story we were clearly able to see the major flaw with the revenge plot line of the book. Its a personal pet peeve of mine where issues are created in a book solely because characters fail to communicate but without that element there would be no story so I am only a tiny bit mad at it.

P.S. The entire series is available on Kindle Unlimited for ebooks and Scribd for audiobooks!

Synopsis:

Erika
I was told that dreams were our heart’s desires. My nightmares, however, became my obsession.

His name is Michael Crist.

My boyfriend’s older brother is like that scary movie that you peek through your hand to watch. He’s handsome, strong, and completely terrifying. The star of his college’s basketball team and now gone pro, he’s more concerned with the dirt on his shoe than me.

But I noticed him.

I saw him. I heard him. The things that he did, and the deeds that he hid… For years, I bit my nails, unable to look away.

Now, I’ve graduated high school and moved on to college, but I haven’t stopped watching Michael. He’s bad, and the dirt I’ve seen isn’t content to stay in my head anymore.

Because he’s finally noticed me.

Michael
Her name is Erika Fane, but everyone calls her Rika.

My brother’s girlfriend grew up hanging around my house and is always at our dinner table. She looks down when I enter a room and stills when I am close. I can always feel the fear rolling off of her, and while I haven’t had her body, I know that I have her mind. That’s all I really want anyway.

Until my brother leaves for the military, and I find Rika alone at college.

In my city.

Unprotected.

The opportunity is too good to be true, as well as the timing. Because you see, three years ago she put a few of my high school friends in prison, and now they’re out.

We’ve waited. We’ve been patient. And now every last one of her nightmares will come true.

Have you read Corrupt? What did you think? Any other books like this one you think I should read?
